This article introduces the concept of Technological Pronk as a theoretical framework to analyze incremental innovation processes in resource-constrained contexts. Unlike leapfrogging, which entails the adoption of disruptive technologies and the skipping of development stages, technological pronk refers to situations in which the creative and adaptive use of appropriate technologies generates substantial improvements without shifting the technological paradigm. Inspired by the antipredatory behavior of the springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis), the concept highlights the potential of local adaptations, frugal innovations, and bricolage solutions to foster resilience, efficiency, and tangible social benefits. Drawing on the ideas of intermediate technology (Schumacher), convivial tools (Illich), and the decolonization of the technological imaginary (Latouche), we argue that technological pronk represents an incremental yet socially significant leap that strengthens local capacities and provides sustainable alternatives to motorized and industrializing paradigms.
